Adoptive Boys Found Starving While Rest Of Family Well Fed
I came across this story over the weekend too and it made me ill. It appears that a couple in Lyman, South Carolina had adopted three boys but did not want to feed them for whatever reason. Per the article:
A couple has been jailed on felony charges after police discovered their three adopted sons were severely malnourished, including a 5-year-old boy who weighed less than 20 pounds. This is just not right and I cannot belive people could do something like this. What's even sadder about this is that according to the story, these boys were the woman's nephews who they adopted in 2003. This couple should be sentenced to death by starvation to let them see how it feels. Any thought on how society could possibly avoid situations like this? What I do not understand is how no one saw this malnourishment going on and reported it sooner. I have to imagine these kids went to school and had teachers and classmates. I dunno.......the world scares me more every day.An 8-year-old brother weighed less than 40 pounds and a 7-year-old brother weighed about 32 pounds when police found them Thursday. The boys also were treated for bruises, scratches, burns and head lice.
Two of the boys told officers they were tied up to be kept from food in the mobile home.
Dennis McCurry, 30, and Molly McCurry, 29, were each charged with three counts of intentional infliction of great bodily injury upon a child. If convicted of the felony, each faces a minimum 20-year sentence.
A fourth child, Molly McCurry's 10-year-old biological daughter, was found to have head lice but was not malnourished, police said.
